Powerful Voices: Listening to the Unheard ( Published: 04/06/2026)

As part of our focus on Respect and World Environment Day, students explored the theme of ‘Powerful Voices’ through a thought-provoking assembly led by our Student Leaders in Year 10 and Year 7.

Using creative monologues from everyday parts of our school environment, including a bin, the astro turf and a dining table, students were encouraged to consider the voices we often overlook and the messages our actions send.

The assembly linked closely to our work on oracy, reminding students that communication is not only about speaking, but also about listening. By reflecting on how we treat our environment, shared spaces and one another, students considered how respect can be shown through small everyday actions.

The assembly concluded with a powerful reminder that every action has a voice and every choice leaves a message. Together, we can ensure our school community speaks of respect, responsibility and care.

This assembly highlighted the importance of oracy, encouraging students not only to use their voices effectively but also to listen to the voices that are often overlooked. It was a powerful reminder that respect is demonstrated through both our words and our actions.

Leading this assembly reminded me that having a powerful voice comes with responsibility. As a Student Leader, I can use my voice to encourage others to show respect, care for our environment and make positive choices.
