Students during a workshop with the African Foundation Dance Theatre in November 2022

As part of the Performing Arts department’s commitment to offering high quality expert training, we welcomed the African Foundation Dance Theatre (AFODAT) to deliver a specialist workshop in African dance.

We welcomed the African Foundation Dance Theatre, an award winning cultural group based in Ghana, to run a workshop with our BTEC Dance students. Ibrahim Baidoo and Samuel Akpalu, a dance and drum director from AFODAT, delivered a class that incorporated traditional African dance and live drumming.

Students had the opportunity to experiment with dynamics, rhythm and tempo. They embraced the practitioners’ direction and flourished with the choreography. Students have been inspired to share their knowledge with younger students and will lead workshops with our Year 8 students, to guide them through the process.

Students fully embraced the moto of ‘life is all we have, let鈥檚 celebrate cultural diversity and love ourselves’.
